Breed Facts

The Yorkie is a toy dog with steel blue, black, gray, and tan silk coat. Often time’s hair is floor length. They are one of the most popular of the toy groups.

The Yorkie sheds no hair, but just as a humans hair, (humans don't shed, but thier hair does come out.)

Origin-
The Yorkie (Yorkshire terrier) was developed in the 19th century. Passed down from mixes of Scottish Terriers, and first came to the U.S. in about 1880.

Temperment-
The yorkie seem unaware of its small size. It seems to have a passion for adventure. They are very good watch dogs, but not very good guard dogs. They are loyal, friendly, good companion, energetic, and clever. Yorkies do better with no little children, they can get easily annoyed with them and are very petite and fragile, little children can, not knowingly, hug to hard, play to rough, drop by accident.
The yorkie likes to bark, but can be easily taught not to do so.

Height-
6-9 inches

Weight-
3-7 lbs

Living conditions-
They would do fine living in a small apartment. They are very active indoors; they’d be fine with a little backyard.

Life span-
12-15 years

Grooming-
They need daily brushing, especially Yorkies with floor length hair. They need to be bathed every 7-9 day. Nail should be clipped.

Group-
toy, AKC, terrier

Health problems-
Alot of the time they get early tooth decay and teeth need to be brushed once a week with novel dent, hard food can help with teeth problems. Treats that are exotic should be avoided. They also seem to be prone to bronchitis. Girl Yorkies sometimes have a hard time delivering because of her size, and should not be bred if under 4.5 lbs. If they are under 4.5 lbs. than you should immidiatly get them spayed.
